For Zayn Malik's daughter Khai, every song is the best song ever.
And that’s because the 3-year-old—whom Zayn shares with ex Gigi Hadid—thinks that every song she hears is one of her dad’s.
As the One Direction alum told Harper’s Bazaar India in an interview published July 1, not only has Khai begun to remember lyrics, but ever since learning her dad is a singer she’s known to ask people whenever any song is playing, “Is my baba singing?”
It’s one of the many small joys Zayn is trying to hold onto as his daughter gets older.
“It goes by fast!” he added of fatherhood. “Being a father has only inspired me and made me a better human. My daughter is my whole life and has given me purpose.”
And this is not the first time the 31-year-old has discussed his daughter’s growing musical prowess.
"She's not expert-level, but she's got a bit of rhythm when she's hitting the drums and stuff," Zayn said of his daughter’s abilities on The Zach Sang Show in May. "You can tell that she could definitely develop that into something."
But while one might assume her musical talents come from Zayn himself, the Billboard Music Award winner points to Gigi when it comes to Khai’s rhythmic abilities.
"Her mom was actually really good at Guitar Hero on the drums and I was like ‘Maybe she got that from her mom,’” he explained. “'Cause I was diabolical at it and G used to beat me all the time. I'm the musician and she beat me at this game!"
Zayn has also ensured Khai has the ability to flourish—both musically and beyond—by allowing her to grow up outside the spotlight on his farm in rural Pennsylvania.
It’s a decision he made very early on in his fatherhood journey.
"When I found out that my partner at the time was pregnant, I pretty quickly made up my mind that this would be a great place to raise a child because there's so much for her to do here," Zayn told L'Officiel magazine in March. "So, we do spend a lot of time outside."
He continued, “We do the gardening. She likes to camp with me. We cook outside. We fish a little bit. And she's really into it, too, so it makes it fun. Hopefully, we can create some amazing memories here."
